Simas Snezhko built a miniature car out of wood as a physics project in 11th grade. It differs from many analogs in that it has all the mechanisms required for a car, including disc brakes. You can see the model in detail in a three-minute video on the Generic Woodworking Youtube channel.
- Usually, the creators of such models are limited to the operating steering mechanism and a few simple little things. At Snezhko, they are detailed and function like a real three-speed manual transmission, an open differential, and hydraulic disc brakes. In the V8 engine with a volume of 170 "cubes" the pistons move, but the wooden structure cannot generate traction for the wheels.
- However, the teenager plans to solve this problem and make the car go. In the meantime, he is adjusting the operation of the speedometer and other sensors in the car. For example, the odometer already counts the mileage in meters. The power source is the electric motor of the drill. Everything was done with little or no computer modeling. Although in the future the model should acquire a body, and here it is already indispensable without design programs.
The mechanical joints were lubricated with regular soap and candle wax. Many details of the project are disclosed here.
- In November, the author of the Woodworking Art Youtube channel showed a large-scale copy of a Ford Ranger pickup made of wood. The nine-minute video captures the entire process of transforming a wooden block into a highly detailed scale model. The car has a suspension, the wheels rotate and turn, the doors and hood open, the tailgate is folded back. The master was not even too lazy to cut the tread on the tires and carefully work on the pattern of the alloy wheels.
