This weekend, Egypt will host the "Golden Parade of the Pharaohs". According to the Daily News, on April 3, more than two dozen mummies of the Egyptian rulers will be transported from the museum in Cairo, where they are now, to the premises of the new exhibition. Moving mummies will turn into a solemn procession of the whole cortege.
- Among the remains to be transported are, for example, the mummies of the pharaohs named Ramses, Thutmose III, Seti I and several Egyptian queens, including the famous Hatshepsut. Several ornate platforms will be built especially for this event, on which mummies will be placed. In addition, horse-drawn carriages will be involved in the cortege.
- The departure of the motorcade from the museum in Cairo's Tahrir Square will be marked by a fireworks of 21 guns, and lighting will be installed along the route of the procession along the Nile: the procession will leave at night. Residents and guests of Cairo will be able to follow the action on TV screens, which are planned to be installed on the streets. In addition, live TV and online broadcasts will be organized.
- The end point of the trip will be the so-called Royal Gallery of Mummies - it will be located in the new National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. The arrival of the cortege will coincide with the opening of the museum to the public, but it will take two weeks for tourists to gain access to the Royal Gallery.
The entire ceremony, according to the calculations of the local tourism ministry, will take about an hour and a half. It was organized to draw attention to the new museum exposition.
In January last year, the Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said Al Said, was seen off on his last journey in a cortege of a similar scale. The funeral procession was attended by many unusual SUVs.
