Toyota And Tesla May Release An Inexpensive Electric Crossover

Toyot and Tesl are considering joint development of an electric SUV. This is reported by the Korean edition of Chosun, citing sources in Toyota. This will supposedly allow Tesl to bring an inexpensive crossover to the market. Manufacturers themselves prefer not to comment on these rumors.

• The publication claims that Toyot will provide a platform for the joint electric car project, and Tesl will provide on-board electronics and software. As a result, the American company will receive an affordable electric car, saving on development and implementation, and at the same time will increase its sales in Japan. In turn, Toyot, with the help of Tesl, could catch up in the electric car segment.
• This is not the first time that the two manufacturers have collaborated; at the beginning of the last decade, Toyot decided to experiment with bringing an electric car to the market. Then the filling from Tesl was integrated into the RAV4 crossover, equipped with an electric motor with a return of about 150 hp. and a 41.8-kilowatt battery pack. However, after a couple of years, Toyot chose to develop the direction of hydrogen transport instead of electric vehicles.

• Tesl announced its plans to release a "people's electric car" at a price of 25 thousand dollars last year. However, according to the latest data, the creation of such an electric car should not be carried out by the Toyot and Tesla alliance, but by the Chinese division of the company - especially for this, Tesl wants to build a research center in Shanghai.
