Volkswagen plans to rename itself Voltswagen in the light of the priority direction of the auto industry for electrification. Writes about this USToday with a link to the already deleted news on the official website of the brand. An insider who wished to remain anonymous confirmed that this was indeed the case.
- The news was quickly removed from the official website. However, the publication managed to notice her and asked for comments. Officials refused to give them. At the same time, a source in the company confirmed: this is not a joke, not a duck, and not the result of a hacker attack. Electric models will become "Voltswagens", while cars with internal combustion engines will retain the old emblem and the old brand name.
- Replacing just one letter looks like an elegant move. The overall brand awareness will not be affected by this: most of them will habitually read the name in the old way, not noticing the changes. And the root Volt, meanwhile, serves as a reference to the electrical theme. After the diesel gate, the German concern wants to move away from associations with internal combustion engines as quickly and further as possible.
The company plans in this way to highlight the huge investments it makes in electric vehicles and environmental improvements. At the same time, the key values will remain unchanged: to make comfortable, technological and convenient cars in each segment.
- Volkswagen intends to launch 70 electric models through its brands by 2029. By 2025, annual sales of "green" cars should be one million units.
- Earlier it became known that Volkswagen may participate in the race of electric trucks in North America. Such a development of the situation was not ruled out by senior vice president of the American division of the company, Hein Schafer. The MEB platform, which Volkswagen is using for its line of electric vehicles, has the potential to build on it a pickup truck ranging in size from compact to large. Thus, the Atlas Tanoak concept, presented back in 2018, can still become serial.
