The fourth Russian driver in Formula 1 history, Nikita Mazepin, driving for the Haas team, left the track on the first lap of his first big race. The impact on the bump stop at a speed of 230 km / h, according to Motorsport, did not allow Mazepin to continue the race. The Bahrain Grand Prix, which became the debut in Formula 1 for the driver, took place last weekend.
- Loss of control over the car is considered the cause of the accident. According to the newspaper, the racer ran into the inner curb in the third turn of the Sakhir track. According to Match TV, Mazepin himself said that he lost control due to mechanical problems - the car had problems with the gas pedal. As an additional factor, the tires that were not sufficiently warmed up for the pace taken from the start were also mentioned.
- Contact with the bump stop, resulting from loss of control, led to the destruction of the front and rear suspensions of the car. For this reason, Nikita Mazepin was unable to return to the race.
- Haas has not yet released an official statement on this matter. However, an indirect confirmation of possible technical problems is the later loss of control over the car by Mazepin's teammate, Mik Schumacher. True, he still managed to avoid the accident.
- Before the start of the season, the Haas team gave an additional reason for discussion by unveiling the official livery of their cars. Mazepin and Schumacher perform in cars decorated in the colors of the Russian flag.
