Video: Rare BMW Of Jamiroquai Soloist Will Go Under The Hammer
Briton Jay Kay is known not only as the frontman of the Jamiroquai group and a musical experimenter, but also as a collector of rare cars. One of the cars from his personal collection - a rare 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL - will be on sale at Silverstone this weekend. The expected price is up to 115 thousand pounds (almost 12 million rubles).
Jay Kay became the sixth owner of a rarity that has belonged to him for the past 13 years. BMW has built just 500 examples of the 3.0 CSL coupe for the UK market and the sports car for sale is the 400th in a row. The total circulation of the model was 1039 cars.
- This compartment came off the assembly line, being yellow. However, in the course of a total restoration carried out by one of the previous owners, the body color was changed to Diamond Schwartz - it was considered more suitable for a sporty BMW. At the same time, Bilstein components appeared in the coupe's suspension, the Mahle piston group appeared in the engine, and the factory rims were replaced with alternative ones from Alpina.
- The car underwent another restoration in 2010 already at the initiative of Jay Kay, having acquired the current body color. Auctioneers claim that the BMW 3.0 CSL was one of the artist's favorite cars: the musician looked after it carefully and rarely left. Officially, the current mileage of the coupe is not named, but in the odometer photo you can see the figure of 13,100 miles (just over 21,000 kilometers).
The BMW 3.0 CSL is a lightweight version of the 3.0 CS coupe with aluminum body panels and plastic windows - a set of measures has reduced the weight of the car by 136 kilograms. The coupe is equipped with a 3.2-liter six-cylinder engine that develops about 200 hp. paired with a five-speed "mechanics".
- In August, a similar 1974 BMW 3.0 CS coupe underwent a major transformation: built on the initiative of actor Robert Downey Jr. in the SpeedCore studio, the car received a BMW M5 E34 engine instead of the standard engine and noticeably modified exterior and interior. Around the same days that SpeedCore revealed the details of the project, a black BMW 3.0 CSL, which was also yellow, was sold at Bring Trailer auction. For a coupe with a non-original engine, they paid 175 thousand dollars (13.3 million rubles).
