Volkswagen Showed Images Of The New Cross-coupe And Unmanned Tractor

The head of the Volkswagen concern Herbert Diesse published several design sketches on LinkedIn, demonstrating the future electronic products of the concern - including an unusual cross-coupe, which should become the flagship of this direction. In addition, a sketch of a fully autonomous mainline tractor appeared.

• The electric car, now known as Project Trinity, will take on the appearance of a cross-coupe with an unusually aerodynamic appearance and a pointed stern - in fact, the published sketch depicts a single-box. It is argued that a fundamentally new style of Volkswagen will be demonstrated on the electric car, but the designers of the concern pay main attention to the study of the interior.
• Project Trinity should receive a 4th level autonomous control system. This means that in most cases the car will be able to make its own decisions in traffic situations, but retain the basic controls.
• Detailed specifications have not yet been disclosed. It is known that Project Trinity will be based on its own architecture, different from the current MEB (the entire VW ID family is built on it). In addition, the electric car should receive fundamentally new batteries that will replenish the supply of electricity in about the same time it takes to fill the fuel tank - that is, in a few minutes.

• The pipeline version of Project Trinity is expected to arrive in 2026, but before that Volkswagen will unveil a pre-production prototype. Despite the abundance of modern technology, the first electric car on this platform should be comparable in price to the current VW ID.3.
• As for the project of an unmanned truck, there is no information about it yet. The tractor depicted in the sketch bears the MAN logo and is completely devoid of a cab: instead, a kind of massive fairing is used. Thus, the tractor should become a fully autonomous vehicle.
• Volkswagen previously announced its refusal to invest in the development of new families of internal combustion engines: the company plans to eventually transfer its entire model range to electric traction. This will happen, however, not earlier than 2030.
