Auto.ru analysts have studied the price lists of manufacturers and found out how the recommended retail prices for cars have changed in the first month of 2021 compared to December 2020. It turned out that 29 brands of cars had risen in price in a month.
Among individual models and modifications, the price of the 150-horsepower Citroen C4 sedan performed by Shine unexpectedly sharply increased, which immediately added 15.4% or 220,000 rubles. At the same time, in general, the model has risen in price by 6.9%. The price of the Lexus ES in the Comfort trim level has grown by almost 10% (250,000 rubles), although on average the ES line has added only 1.1%.
The Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S convertibles and coupes increased the most in absolute numbers: these models added 690,000 - 830,000 rubles each, or 5% to last year's price. The price for the Taycan Turbo S electric car went up by 710,000 rubles (plus 6.1%).
Among the cars of other brands, prices for the two-door Mercedes-AMG GT R increased sharply - plus 650,000 ₽ or 4.1%, the AMG G 63 SUV (plus 620,000 ₽ or 3.3%) and one more "charged" SUV - Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk (plus RUB 575,000 and 5.8%).
The Mercedes-Benz brand updated prices for 19 models in January - by an average of 3.9%. The minimum price increase was recorded for the A-class: plus 2.1% (90,000 - 110,000 rubles).
Despite the general increase in prices, some cars fell in price. For example, the petrol Lexus LX in the Luxury 21+ trim level has become more affordable by 3.9% or by RUB 300,000, and the Citroen C4 sedan (150 hp, 1.6 l, automatic) in the SHINE Ultimate trim level - by 8, 4% or 130,000 rubles. Some versions of Lexus GX (minus 1%, 55,000 rubles), RX (minus 0.8 - 1.4%, 50,000 ₽) and UX (minus 1.2 - 2.4%, 46,000 - 62 000 ₽). Cheaper were ToyotFortuner (minus 0.5%, 11,000 - 16,000 ₽), Hilux (minus 1.4 - 1.8%, 46,000 ₽) and RAV4 (minus 1.1 - 1.7%, 32,500 ₽).
Price lists were rewritten by 29 manufacturers in January - on average in the market, cars rose in price by 2%. Porsche and Fiat brands started the year with a sharp jump in prices - 4.6 and 4%, respectively. The price tags for cars of 9 more brands remained unchanged: BMW, Changan, CHERYEXEED, Genesis, Land Rover, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot and Subaru.
Premium brand cars rose 2.2%, and mass-produced cars - 1.9%.
Increasing car prices at the beginning of the year is a common practice for most automakers. However, in 2021, the falling ruble acted as a catalyst for growth, which is why many companies began to rewrite prices back in 2020 and continued the correction in early 2021. In the near future, an additional factor in the rise in prices will be an increase in the utilization fee, which will primarily affect imported cars.
