The premiere of the BMW M3 sedan based on the four-door of the current G20 generation, as well as the M4 sports coupe, will take place in September 2020. The BMW brand began to stir up interest in promising new products by publishing a video with a camouflaged M3 prototype.
Some details about the sedan were shared by Christian Flessa, head of the development of auxiliary electronic systems in the sports division of BMW M GmbH. According to him, the sports car is being tested not only at the Nurburgring, but also on country roads, highways and areas with poor coverage.
- One of the challenges for the developers of the new M3 is to achieve the best balance between track potential, convenience and comfort in daily use. Special attention is paid to the steering settings and the characteristics of the shock absorbers.
- From the video, it becomes clear that the M3 will indeed be offered in both a rear-wheel drive version and an M xDrive all-wheel drive transmission. The 3.0L inline six-cylinder engine with two single-flow turbochargers will be borrowed from the sporty crossovers X3 M and X4 M.
- The engine is paired with an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission, which provides an average fuel consumption of 10.5 liters per 100 kilometers. A six-speed manual transmission will also be available.
