Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Mercedes-Benz has postponed the premiere of the new generation S-Class sedan (W223) several times. According to the latest data, the debut should take place in early September 2020 in Sindelfingen, Germany, where the model is produced. The head of brand development Jürgen Weissinger told Mercedes-Fans about this.

So far, only one official teaser of the model has been published. However, in the spring, spy shots of the Mercedes-Benz flagship appeared, including the interior with huge displays on the front panel.

  • Weisinger said that the new S-class began to be developed back in 2015. The W223 sedan will be the first to be built on the new platform. Later, the younger Mercedes-Benz models will also be transferred to it. Like the current "Esca", the novelty will be available with three wheelbases - standard, extended and extra-long for the Mercedes-Maybach version.

  • The Mercedes-Benz flagship will receive a fully steerable chassis, which will reduce the turning radius by 1.2 meters, although the model will become larger and its wheelbase will increase by four centimeters. The list of equipment will include an autopilot system of the third level of autonomy (like Tesla's) with the possibility of updating to the penultimate fourth, which does not require driver intervention in most road situations.
  • Almost all modifications of the new S-Class will be equipped with six- and eight-cylinder turbo engines. There will also be several hybrid versions with the ability to recharge from the mains and an electric range of up to 100 kilometers. For the first time in the history of the model, the top version of Mercedes-Maybach will offer a combination of a V12 engine and all-wheel drive: previously, twelve-cylinder engines were installed only on rear-wheel-drive sedans.

  • Serial production of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class W223 will begin in 2021, and the luxury Mercedes-Maybach will debut in the middle of it. In the same year, the flagship of the brand will appear in Russia.
