New Genesis G80 Catches Fire On The Go

In South Korea, shortly after the launch of the second-generation Genesis G80, one of the sedans caught fire while driving on the highway. The automaker has already launched an investigation into the incident. Reported by Cnet Korea.

• During a typical trip, the 54-year-old woman noticed the remains of cardboard boxes lying on the asphalt in the tunnel too late. Due to heavy traffic, she did not have time to rebuild, and immediately after driving through the debris, a low oil pressure signal appeared on the dashboard. The woman stopped at the exit of the tunnel, but by this time the fire had already started.

• Firefighters quickly arrived and put out the fire in seven minutes. The Genesis G80, which is just one month old, has a badly burned front end. No people were injured in the incident. The remains of a burnt-out air filter from a truck were found near the car. According to one version, it got under the bottom of the G80 and the car caught fire from sparks.
• It is not yet known how the Hyundai investigation will affect the timing of the new Genesis G80 in other markets, including ours. The Russian office of the brand previously announced that the premiere of the GV80 sedan and crossover in our market will take place in September 2020.
