KamAZ has produced the first sample of the new Samson mining dump truck with a carrying capacity of 60 tons, which can drive without a driver. The novelty is able to replace some BelAZ models.
The new five-axle KamAZ-65805 "Samson" can take 60 tons of cargo, when loaded, it weighs 27 tons, and its gross weight reaches 87 tons.
Truck dimensions - 11040x2530x3950 mm. Of the five axles, three rear axles are leading, and the first, second and fifth axles are also swivel (in the four-axle KamAZ-65801, only the first two axles turn), which sharply increases the maneuverability of a long car on narrow roads.

For comparison: the Belarusian quarry BelAZ of the 7555 family takes on 55-60 tons of cargo, but it is twice as wide, noticeably higher and cannot, because of its size, go on public roads even to drive to the place of work, while the KAMAZ Samson »There are no such restrictions.
The dump body produced by the Chelny company "SpetsAvtoKam" can hold up to 26 cubic meters of rock, in winter it is heated by the engine exhaust gases and, when unloaded, rises to an angle of 50 degrees. At the same time, the developed protective visor above the cab hints that this is the so-called "skalnik" - a reinforced body for transporting rocks. It is extremely necessary to protect the truck cab in such quarries so that it does not crumple in emergency situations.
"Samson" received the same 2300 mm wide cab without a berth, which is also used on its "younger brothers" from the new K5 dump truck family. This cab is produced by a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and KamAZ. In terms of the frame and a number of other details, it is unified with the one that is also installed on Mercedes Actros trucks.

The new dump truck is equipped with an in-line 12-liter turbodiesel "six" P6, developed by KamAZ together with Liebherr. It is also installed, for example, on the new mainline tractor K5, but on the Samson the engine was boosted from 450 to 550 hp, and the torque increased from the base 2000 to 2540 Nm at 1300 rpm. The expected resource before overhaul is about 1.5 million kilometers with an oil change every 150,000 kilometers.
Diesel on the Samson is mated to a ZF Traxon automated 12-speed gearbox. And this allows it to implement autopilot technology on it without the presence of the driver in the cab. So, the dump truck is convenient to use in quarries in areas that are dangerous to human life. But at the same time, you can operate the car as usual with the driver behind the wheel.
Although KamAZ-65805 "Samson" is seriously unified with other serial dump trucks of the new K5 series, it will be produced only on orders. Production start dates and prices have not yet been announced.
Until recently, the most-lifting KAMAZ dump truck was the four-axle 65801 family, capable of carrying, depending on the version, from 31 to 32.4 tons with a permitted gross weight of up to 50 tons. Under the cab is a six-cylinder in-line diesel Mercedes OM 457LA. V / 4, developing 428 hp. and 1900 Nm, paired with a 16-speed manual gearbox from ZF.
