In The UK, Only 197 Cars Were Produced In A Month - 99.7% Less Than A Year Ago

Car production in the UK nearly stalled in April 2020, hitting a historic low since World War II. During the month, only 197 cars were produced against 70 971 a year earlier. The reason was the restrictions imposed in the country related to the coronavirus pandemic.

• According to the British Society of Car Manufacturers and Dealers (SMMT), only small businesses produced cars. 152 cars were exported, and 45 cars remained in the UK - compared with April 2019, the figures decreased by 99.7 percent.
• Throughout April, the largest automobile factories in the country were engaged in the production of medical equipment for the treatment of those infected with coronavirus. For all the time they produced 711,495 personal protective equipment. Now enterprises are again returning to the production of cars: by the end of May, about half of the companies and factories had resumed work.

In April 2020, UK new car sales fell to 1946, with just 871 units sold, down 97 percent from the same period last year. Because of this, the former airbase and seaport turned into huge car parks.
