Volkswagen has pledged to establish production of three new models in Russia by 2028 - all of them will be crossovers. This became known to the agency "Prime" from the documents of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
- In the special investment contract, according to which Volkswagen will receive benefits from the state, only one model is designated - the Volkswagen Tarek crossover. This is a modified version of SkodKaroq with its own interior, which has been sold in China since the fall of 2018 under the name Volkswagen Tharu. Also in the documents of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, another compact model and an unnamed large-size crossover are indicated. Details about them and the dates of the start of release in Russia are still classified.
Earlier it became known that production of the Tarek model in Russia is planned to be launched during 2020. Crossovers assembled in Russia will be sold not only in the Russian Federation, but also in some countries of Europe and Asia.
- In 2021, the release of Tarek will be launched in Mexico and Argentina - the version for these countries is slightly different from the Chinese version.
- In total, by the end of 2028, Volkswagen will invest 61.514 billion rubles in Russian production, including in the development of motor production - in addition to atmospheric 1.6, Kaluga will launch the production of 1.4-liter turbo engines.
Now Volkswagen assembles Polo liftbacks and Tiguan crossovers at the Kaluga plant. They are produced in a full cycle with welding and body painting.
