Russians Are Ready To Order And Pay For Cars Via The Internet

At the end of March in Russia, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the activities of most trade organizations, including dealerships, were suspended. To keep losses to a minimum, many retailers have launched online sales with the option of delivering cars to customers at home.

Auto.ru analysts learned how Russians feel about such a service and whether they are ready to turn to it in conditions of forced self-isolation. The survey involved Auto.ru users who were interested in buying a car in April.

New cars are ready to buy remotely

Among users who searched for new car, 52 percent of respondents reacted positively to the home delivery service. In addition to the fact that it is simply convenient - because the client does not need to waste time on a trip to a car dealership, today it is also the safest way to buy a car: contacts with other people are minimized.

But buy online used car only a third of the respondents are ready. The inability to inspect the selected car in advance and the opacity of the market affect the trust in remote services on the "secondary": there remains the risk of meeting a car with twisted mileage, body defects and other shortcomings. New cars are devoid of these shortcomings.

Buyers are ready to prepay

Half of the customers interested in buying a new car, answered that they were ready to make an advance payment. At the same time, most of them (44 percent) do not mind buying the car immediately, paying for it in full. One of the possible reasons is the fear that automakers will raise prices in the near future, and prepayment is an opportunity to purchase a car at the current price list.

Every tenth respondent is ready to contribute 10–20% of the cost of the car; about 8 percent of those who answered not against an advance payment of 25-50 percent, and the same amount can pay 50 thousand rubles in advance, and the rest - already during the transaction.

A third of those who are still ready to buy a car online with mileage, agree to leave a prepayment for the car of interest in the amount of 50,000 rubles - this is the most popular answer. There were also those who are able to contribute more - 100,000 rubles or even half of the cost of the car.
