Meet Matthew Watson. Automotive journalist, blogger, face of British YouTube. Previously, he worked in magazines, and has devoted the last few years to the promotion of the Carwow Youtube channel. And today it is so cool that it can be seen from space. But now Mat, like all of us, is sitting at home, so we found him and asked several questions of a global scale: about Lada, about self-isolation, about a wheelbarrow for life

1. Is it good to drive in the UK?

All in all, good. But the main drawback of our drivers is stubbornness. On a three-lane highway, people often drive in the middle lane without changing lanes to the left (in the UK, right-hand traffic - ed.). This is annoying. We also don't like being overtaken. So if you go to overtake a slow car, that car will accelerate and try to get in your way. A separate topic is oncoming drivers. First, they will blink your headlights. Second, instead of slowing down and avoiding an accident, they would rather bump into you and die than give in. It's very British.

2. What do you do on self-isolation?

I have a green screen and I record various videos in the apartment. Then the editors overlay the images of the car I'm talking about on the background. In general, over the past year we managed to shoot a lot of reviews. This means that during isolation, we can continue to release full-fledged videos in which I drive cars and test drives.

3. Do you know any Russian cars?

No … I just heard that there is something called gi-ey-zet. GAS? If you know of any Russian cars that I should test, please tell me. Stop! I'm a complete idiot. Of course, I've heard about Russian cars. Lada! We all know the Lada brand! In the eighties we sold them. So yeah, I remember. The cars were terrible, and many jokes were made about them. LadVesta? I have no idea what it is.

4. Would you be able to drive a classic car every day?

I have several of these machines. Take the 1998 MazdMX-5, for example. Not so classic, but cool anyway. I also have a Porsche 911 Carrer in the back of a 996 with a 3.4 liter engine. I seriously modified it. And my other car, in fact, is very cool - it's Fiat 126. And it's Polish. Cool kid, you can't find such people today. Absolutely no security systems. If I crash, I die. But he is so cute, small and completely unlike any modern car I have driven. I love it, but I don't go far: I just ride to the store and back.

5. What is your ideal car?

Most likely, it will be a mix of different parts of the cars. I really like the ToyotGT 86, but I want an open-top sports car. So take the MazdMX-5, but with a stiffer suspension. Take it from something sporty like the Megane Renault Sport RS Trophy. But the engine … A great option is the turbocharged engine VW Golf R. As a result, we get an excellent car: it is fast, it steers well, it looks cool, and the roof can be folded down. I would like this.

6. Are you a good driver?

I don't think …
