
Video: A Traveler Found A Rare Military Amphibian From The 1960s In Iceland

Photographer and traveler Andrey Kirnov found in Iceland a rare military amphibian LARC-XV, produced in less than 100 units. According to him, an American-made car was found in the backyard of a local car service. Kirnov published photos of the vehicle on his blog.




- The amphibian LARC-XV began to be produced in 1960 for the needs of the American army. The car body was made of aluminum. It was powered by two Cummins diesel engines with a capacity of 300 horsepower each.
- The maximum carrying capacity of the amphibian is 15 tons. LARC-XV can travel on land at speeds up to 48 kilometers per hour, and on water - up to 17.6 kilometers per hour.

The LARC family of military amphibians included two more models - the V and LX. The carrying capacity of the first is five tons, while the second could take on board up to 100 tons. The LARC-LX was in service with the US Army from 1952 to 2001. This amphibian took part in the Vietnam War.
