Toyota's Very Small Crossover: Hybrid And Four-wheel Drive

Toyot introduced the compact crossover Yaris Cross. As the name suggests, it is based on the latest generation Yaris, but it has a unique body and only a hybrid power plant.

• ToyotYaris Cross is equipped with a 1.5 Atkinson cycle petrol three-cylinder engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. The total power is 116 horsepower.
• Four-wheel drive with a small electric motor on the rear axle is available as an option for the crossover. It works when starting from a standstill and while driving on slippery surfaces. According to Toyota engineers, such a system is lighter and more economical than traditional all-wheel drive transmissions.
• ToyotYaris Cross is 240 mm (4180 mm) longer than the hatchback, 70 mm (1765 mm) wider and 60 mm (1560 mm) higher. The wheelbase of the SUV is 10 mm (2560 mm) larger. At the same time, the novelty is still smaller than the ToyotC-HR. Inside, the Yaris Cross differs from the Yaris by a central tunnel, door cards and rear seats that fold in 40:20:40 proportions.

• In the top version, the Yaris Cross has 18-inch wheels, LED optics, an automatic braking system, a central airbag that separates the driver and passenger, a 10-inch head-up display, wireless smartphone charging and interior backlights.

The production of ToyotYaris Cross will be established at the company's French plant, where standard hatchbacks are already being assembled. European sales of the crossover will begin only in the summer of 2021.
