You will not immediately understand that this is the world's most powerful serial mainline tractor allowed on public roads. Only the nameplate with the power gives out the flagship version of the Volvo FH16, the current generation of which has been produced since 2012, and this year it went through a planned update.

Under the cab of such a Volvo FH16 750 there is a 16-liter inline 6-cylinder D16K turbodiesel, from which the Swedes have removed 750 horsepower and 3550 Nm. So far, neither European (the closest rival is the Swedish 730-strong ScaniR730) nor American competitors offer more power. The automated 12-speed I-Shift gearbox "protects" itself and the transmission, for which the automation monitors the load and releases the entire herd into the wild only on highways and on long ascents.

Conventional trailers such super tractors are rarely dragged - for such tasks they are more often bought for reasons of prestige. Their main purpose is to carry especially heavy couplings. For example, work as a timber truck or haul "Scandinavian" 25-meter road trains. Or carry all kinds of "oversized" items such as parts of bridges, heavy construction equipment or industrial equipment. Volvo says the FH16 750 is capable of towing a road train weighing up to 250 tonnes. By the way, there are several such pre-styling 750-horsepower tractors in Russia. The product is one-of-a-kind, as it is highly specialized and expensive: before the update, they asked for about 163,000 euros for the two-axle, and the four-axle version was already pulling at least 200,000 euros. The updated versions will obviously be even more expensive.

Have you ever heard about the trucks of the French company Nicolas? Yes, such a specific technique is not known to everyone. But in 2005, the five-axle all-wheel drive monster of this company got into the Guinness Book of Records with the wording "the world's largest tractor." Nicolas Tractomas TR 10x10 D100 is a ballast tractor for super-heavy road trains, the first batch of which was ordered by the South African transport company Rotran to the French in the mid-2000s, paying 800,000 euros for each of the four trucks.

The five-axle Tractomas is 12.6 meters long, almost 3.5 meters wide, and reaches 4.5 meters in height. Behind the cab is a 27-liter Caterpillar turbo diesel V12 with 912 hp. and 3460 Nm of torque. The gearbox is an eight-band machine from DanClark Spicer.

To increase the so-called adhesion weight, which makes it possible to move heavy couplings, the Tractomas TR 10x10 is loaded with crushed stone ballast, with which its total weight reaches 71 tons. But after that, a French tractor can pull a road train weighing under 600 tons alone on the road! Although more often for towing such huge masses, another tractor is "harnessed" into the hitch.

In the world race for speed records, trucks have also taken (and are) the most active part. One of the famous record holders is the Phoenix diesel truck. American race car driver Karl Heep began building it back in 1987, based on the old International K-7 truck tractor of 1943.

The standard engine was replaced with a modernized 6-cylinder Detroit Diesel 16V92 diesel engine with a volume of 24 liters, on which four turbochargers and two mechanical superchargers were hung at once, squeezing more than 4000 "horses" out of the engine! The resulting monster was named Shockwave.

When starting from a standstill in afterburner mode, the pilot is pressured by overloads of 6 G, from 0 to 300 mph (480 km / h) Shockwave accelerates in about 11 seconds, and brakes with two aircraft parachutes. But the main thing is that this monster is considered the owner of the world speed record for full-size jet trucks: 605 km / h. And for many years "Shockwave" (this is how the name Shockwave is translated) has been performing in America at air shows, competing with airplanes. In 2012, riders Neil and Chris Darnell bought it, modified, updated ≈ and the legendary truck got a second wind.

However, Shockwave also has a "brother", which, although smaller in size, is even faster. His name is Hawaiian Eagle, and the Guinness Book of Records considers him the fastest jet fire truck in the world. Hawaiian firefighter Shannen Seidel bought the original 1940 Ford firefighter back in the mid-90s and built the jet monster on the spot. I put on it two Rolls Royce Bristol Viper jet engines of 6000 hp each. each with a total thrust of 5.4 tons - and on July 11, 1998, the Hawaiian Eagle accelerated to a record 655 km / h! An unusual off-road road train was created by the American company LeTourneau, which in 1962 brought a product called TC-497 Overland Train Mark II for testing.

It had an electronic control system - when commands were sent from the remote control in the tractor to the steering mechanisms of the trailers, thanks to which the wheels of the trailers turned in the same place as the steered wheels of the tractor. Therefore, the train followed the tractor all the time, trail after trail, even on winding routes, moving along the already trodden track.

The Overland Train had 12 trailers and a total length of 170 meters, it could carry up to 150 tons of cargo and had a cruising range of up to 640 km. In addition to the all-wheel drive tractor, three motor-cars helped to pull the train (“push-pull” scheme). The engines are gas turbine, one is in the tractor, and three more are in trailers, each with a capacity of 1183 hp. Alas, the exotic "centipede" never entered the series, and only the head tractor itself survived from the road train, which settled in the museum of the famous auto testing ground in Yuma, Arizona.

Introduced in 2013, BelAZ-75710 is not just the largest dump truck in the world, but also clearly one of the largest wheeled creations in the history of mankind. Gigantic dimensions - more than that of another house: length 20.6 m, width 9.7 m, height 8.1 m, plus two more flights of stairs to the cabin.

When equipped, the BelAZ-75710 weighs 360 tons, but its main parameter is a record-breaking capacity in the class of 450 metric tons, while competitors such as Caterpillar 797F and Liebherr T 284 can take on "only" 363 tons. But this is not the limit. In January 2014, this BelAZ set a Guinness record for Europe and the CIS, transporting a cargo of 503.5 tons across the landfill, with which the total mass of the dump truck reached 863 tons! To withstand such monstrous weights, not only the front, but also the rear wheels of the super dump truck are gable. One tire weighs 5 tons and holds a load of at least 100 tons. And to increase the giant's maneuverability, both continuous bridges are made swivel.

BelAZ-75710 has 6 engines at once! For each wheel - under one electric motor with a capacity of 810 "forces". They are powered by two 1700 kilowatt Siemens generators, which, in turn, drive two 16-cylinder MTU DD 16V4000 turbodiesels, each with a working volume of 65 liters and an output of 2300 hp. and 9313 Nm. The total power of two diesel engines and four traction electric motors is almost 7840 "horses", accelerating a loaded dump truck to 64 km / h!
