For the first time, Ford has released photographs of a prototype Mustang coupe with the engine behind the cabin. The pictures were discovered in the archive five years ago, but the history of the car has not yet been clarified. Therefore, the automaker asked everyone who knows something about this project to share information about it.

-
Former head of Ford archives, Dean Weber, only managed to find out that the photographs were taken on May 2, 1966 at the concern's design studio in Dearborn. Gail Halderman, lead designer on the original Mustang, and Roy Lann, co-creator of the GT40, said they had never heard of this prototype. At the same time, they are sure that the mysterious car has nothing to do with the mid-engined concept of the 1967 Ford Mustang Mach 2.

-
According to one version, the pictures show one of the early modifications of the Mustang concept. According to the second, this is a completely different project and the prototype has nothing to do with the Mustang. It could only have been a design experiment after reports surfaced that Chevrolet was working on a mid-engined version of the Corvette.
- Tired of searching for nothing, Ford asked all Mustang enthusiasts to share information about the mysterious prototype. You can send your information to [email protected] The informants are promised prizes, but which ones are not known.
