Video: Chinese Electric Vehicles To Receive Nail-resistant Batteries

BYD has unveiled a new lithium-ion battery for electric vehicles called the Blade Battery. According to the developers, the battery has excellent safety and is non-flammable even if nails are driven into it.
- The Blade Battery is a type of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a new circuit for connecting individual cells into a single unit. All parts are protected from overheating, and the density is increased by 50 percent compared to the batteries currently used.

-
The new battery was compared to other lithium-ion batteries: they were bent, cut, heated in an oven to 300 degrees, and recharged 260 percent. During rigorous testing, the Blade Battery never caught fire.
- The first Blade Battery will receive the BYD Han EV sedan. It is presented in two versions - with one electric motor with 218 hp located in the rear, as well as with two engines: 222 hp at the front axle and 272 hp at the rear. The most powerful version travels up to 450 kilometers on a single charge.
- BYD Han EV will go on sale in the Chinese market before the end of 2020. The company said that other automakers are also interested in the Blade Battery.
