The funeral of local politician and businessman Chekedi Pitso took place in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. At Chekedi's request, his personal Mercedes-Benz E-class W124 series was used instead of the coffin. This was reported by the local edition of Sowetan Live.
- Many people gathered for the unusual funeral of the 72-year-old politician. The sedan was loaded onto a tow truck and ceremonially towed across his native village to the burial site in the family cemetery. The car was placed in a large pit and buried according to local traditions.
The deceased's niece explained that Chekedi Pitso bequeathed to bury himself in his personal car two years ago. He owned a Mercedes-Benz E-Class for a long time and this sedan was his favorite car. The family was shocked by such a request, but in the end they carried out his will.
- Colleagues from the United Democratic Movement (UDM) party, which is part of the ruling coalition, were not surprised by Chekedi's will. According to them, he has always been an eccentric person.
