The Hyundai Solaris sedan - once the most popular foreign car in Russia - has recently been updated and seems to be planning to regain its lost title. However, it can be prevented not only by the current bestseller KiRio, but also by the restyled SkodRapid liftback. The Czech model has not yet fought for the first places in the sales ratings, but she has more than enough ambitions! And which of them is cooler? Compare Solaris and Rapid: only dry numbers and facts.
Round 1. Dimensions
Rapid has gone through an update rather than a full-fledged generational change - even despite major external changes and a heavily redesigned interior. Because the liftback, as before, is based on the old PQ25 A05 + platform. And the body structure has not undergone any noticeable changes.
Despite the fact that while the Czechs do not provide official data on the size of the novelty, we have every reason to believe that they have not changed. Because this is confirmed by information from the Rosstandart database: length - 4483 mm, width - 1706 mm, height - 1474 mm, wheelbase - 2602 mm.
With the new Solaris, there are much fewer mysteries: the size of the Korean remained the same. Length - 4405 mm, width - 1729 mm, height - 1469 mm, wheelbase - 2600 mm.
But the dimensions themselves are not as important as their rational use. And in this discipline Skoda is traditionally good. The width of the cabin at shoulder level at the Rapid at the rear is 1428 mm, and at the front - 1418 mm (the difference is due to the fact that the rear track of the Rapid is slightly wider than the front one due to the peculiarities of the platform). Solaris, on the contrary, is narrower at the back: 1365 mm versus 1375 mm in front.
The height from the back row seat cushion to the ceiling of the Rapid is 972. The Korean has two and a half centimeters less. It turns out that Skoda wins this round, although face-to-face comparison with roulette may give different results. But for now - a point to Rapid.
Round 2. Trunk
Trunk volume is one of the key indicators for cars of this class. Because the number of roles they are trying on is enormous! They work in taxis, in corporate parks, and in car sharing, and they often take whole families to their dachas.
And here SkodRapid rushes ahead on the move, because, unlike Solaris, the Czech car has a five-door liftback body, which greatly simplifies the loading and unloading of things. And even if we compare only the displacement, the "Czech" will again be ahead by a good 50 liters: Skod has 530 liters, Hyundai has 480.
And at the same time, a full-size spare tire is placed in the trunks of Rapid and Solaris, but the score still goes to Skoda. Again.
Round 3. Motors
The new Rapid will be presented on the Russian market with two gasoline engines - naturally aspirated 1.6 MPI in two power options, as well as with a 1.4 TSI turbo four. No changes from its predecessor.
As before, the 1.6-liter version has two boost levels - 90 and 110 hp. The low-power version is combined only with a five-speed manual gearbox, and the 110-force version can be equipped with both “mechanics” and a six-speed “automatic”. For the 1.4 TSI engine, which develops 125 horsepower, there is only one gearbox - a seven-speed "robot" with two dry clutches DSG (DQ200).
At Solaris, after the update, the power units also remained the same: two motors, two boxes. The base unit is a 1.4-liter unit with a capacity of 100 horsepower, the top-end unit is 1.6 liters and 123 horsepower. Transmissions - mechanical and automatic. Both are six-speed and both are available with any engine.
Even though the Rapid has more engines to choose from, and the range has a turbocharged unit and three transmissions instead of Solaris' two, we are awarding a draw in this round. Because the basic Skoda unit is combined only with "mechanics", while the Solaris with 1.4 can be two-pedal. Each one a point.
Round 4. Options
The updated Rapid has four complete sets: Entry, Active, Ambition and Style. The base Entry is offered only with the lowest-powered engine, while the Active is available for all engines except the supercharged 1.4.
Already in the base, Skod comes with LED DRLs, a stability control system, a pair of airbags, as well as multimedia with a 6.5-inch screen. In addition to all of the above, the Active package will also have an air conditioner.
Ambition differs from the "base" more significantly: there will be heated front seats, cruise control, heated mirrors and washer nozzles, as well as SmartLink and Bluetooth for connecting smartphones to the entertainment complex. Finally, the Style version will offer a heated steering wheel, keyless entry, parking, light, rain sensors and a whole lot of other joys. And, for example, you will have to pay extra for heating the rear seats: traditionally, part of the Skoda's equipment is optional for all trim levels.
Hyundai Solaris has the same number of complete sets - four. The basic Active is available only for a sedan with a 1.4 engine and "mechanics". The car in this version will have central locking, a pair of airbags and two 12-volt outlets in the front. Music? A bluetooth speaker from an electronics store is at your service. Well, or you can sing it yourself.
The next Active Plus equipment is already available with all engines and gearboxes. It adds an audio system with Bluetooth, heated front seats and outside mirrors, air conditioning, and rear power windows. One step higher is the Comfort version, which has a color screen of the onboard computer, heated steering wheel, cruise control and full-fledged multimedia. Comfort can also be combined with any motor and gearbox.
Finally, the most luxurious variant of the Hyundai Solaris is called Elegance. This car has rear disc brakes, parking and light sensors and LED optics. But you can order a complete set Elegance only with a 1.6 engine. In short, again a draw.
Round 5. Prices
We estimate the main parameter for cars of this class - the cost! Prices for the updated Solaris start at 765 thousand rubles - this is how much the sedan in the Active version costs. The Active Plus package will cost at least 840 thousand rubles, and the Comfort package will cost 885 thousand. Well, if you want a "treadmill" with a 1.6-liter engine, then you have to pay 1 million 15 thousand rubles for the version with a manual gearbox ("automatic" will cost another 45 thousand). However, do not forget that there are also several option packages available for Solaris. So, the Prestige set adds heating to the rear sofa and opening the trunk from the key fob. Its price is 43 thousand rubles.
We will find out how much the individual options and packages for the new Rapid will cost a little later - while the old liftback is being sold on the official website of the brand. But prices for fixed configurations are already known. The initial Entry costs 792 thousand rubles. Expensive? But she immediately has music!
The air conditioner that separates the Entry from the Active, Skoda estimated at 37 thousand - the Active equipment costs at least 829 thousand rubles. Ambition will cost at least 899,000 rubles, while Style will pull no less than 1 million 21 thousand rubles - if you take a car with a 90-horsepower 1.6 MPI. The same equipment, but with a turbo engine will cost 1 million 171 thousand rubles.
Hyundai Solaris wins this round by a small margin. But the real struggle of these models on the market will obviously be more interesting to watch than to count points. Because the Korean sedan traditionally occupies high lines in the sales ratings, and the Rapid after the update has become more accessible, which means it is more attractive! And it is more attractive not only due to the prices. Therefore, we will wait for both cars to appear on sale, and immediately arrange a full-time battle for them.
