British Scientists: Apple CarPlay And & Nbsp; Android Auto While Driving Is More Dangerous Than Alcohol

Experts from the British organization IAM Road Smart, which has been studying road safety since 1956, found that using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto systems on the move is more dangerous than driving while intoxicated. We came to this conclusion after tests on a simulator.

• Participants in the experiment drove a virtual car at different speeds and in different road conditions. In addition, they had to quickly respond to a red stripe suddenly appearing on the screen by pulling the steering column switch towards themselves.
• The driver's typical reaction time was 1 second. Drunk response time (in the UK, driver's blood alcohol level should not exceed 0.8 ppm) increased by 12%, when writing text messages while driving - by 35%, and while talking on the phone - by 46%.

• Stimulus response slowed down by 53% with Android Auto and 57% with Apple CarPlay. In some cases, drivers took their eyes off the road for 16 seconds, although they themselves thought they were distracted for less time. In the version of voice control, the reaction became one third slower.
• IAM Road Smart called for the introduction of new standards for multimedia systems so that people behind the wheel are less distracted from driving. In addition, experts noted that when using the current versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, drivers unnoticed for themselves shifted to the side by half a meter.
