Video: All Volvo Crossovers Are Bulletproof. Even The XC40
Volvo has introduced armored modifications of the XC40, XC60 and XC90 crossovers. First of all, they were created for Brazil and developed in conjunction with the German company EDAG and the Brazilian Carbon Blindados, which specialize in similar projects.
Crossovers received protective plates made of Kevlar and high-strength steel with a thickness of 2.5-3 millimeters, 20-millimeter bulletproof glass, reinforced frames and door hinges. In this case, the protection class is not disclosed. The rest of the cars remain completely standard.
- Volvo crossover vehicle kits will be shipped from European and Chinese factories to Brazil, where they will be converted into armored cars. For the bulletproof version, you will have to pay extra 70,000 reais (1.07 million rubles).
- Volvo noted that 960 hours were spent on ballistic testing of armored versions. Later, protected crossovers will begin to be sold in other Latin American countries and in Europe.
In 2019, Volvo, together with the German firm Trasco Bremen, created the first armored version of the XC90 with more serious protection. The armored car weighs 4.5 tons and protects up to 15 kilograms of explosives when detonated at a distance of two meters. The cost of such a crossover is known only in the UK - it is 450,000 pounds (42.3 million rubles).
