The crossover is the head of everything. And since the main car dealership of the planet was covered by a sudden coronavirus, all new items without exception moved online. We have counted the supercars of virtual Geneva, and now the serial crossovers are next in line. Popular favorites and profit earners for car companies. Here they are, for every taste and wallet.
The second generation of the small-bore crossover was supposed to occupy the Mercedes stand in Geneva like birds would occupy power lines. Beauty, after all! But it did not fail, and as a result we watch the premiere of GL in virtual, counting versions and considering possible variations. Gasoline cars, hybrids and plug-in hybrids, and to top it off - a hot Mercedes-AMG GL35 and a scorching GL45 S with a 421-horsepower engine and a 4.3-second acceleration to hundreds. In the spring-summer of 2020, this whole company will begin to flood the European markets. Alas, the GL premiere is turning into a dealership.
VW's first all-electric crossover - it would be worth queuing at the Geneva booth for that. Now you will have to go to Volkswagen salons for ID.4: by the end of 2020, the silent novelty should reach dealers in a rear-wheel drive version, and later with four drivers. The ID.4 is based on the same modular MEB electric platform as the VW ID.3 and Seat el-Born, and the range, depending on the version, can be up to 500 kilometers!
Volkswagen Touareg R
The alternative to VW's electric ID.4 is, of course, the Touareg crossover at its most powerful. Behind the R is a wild 462-horsepower tandem of a three-liter biturbo V6 petrol and a 136 horsepower electric motor, complete with a battery pack. This is how elegant and modern the Touareg R overshadowed its 450-horsepower ancestor with a huge six-liter W12. VW did not disclose data on the dynamics of the "erka", but rumors persistently beat down the bar of five seconds to a hundred, so the truth is somewhere nearby. As well as the start of sales: in the second half of 2020, when the most powerful Tuareg will appear on the roads.
Is it debatable that you wanted to touch the living folk Sorento no less than the Koenigsegg or Bugatti conventionally available to earthlings? Indeed, even from the photo, the Korean flagship of the fourth generation is still a supercar: fashionable, bright, solidly equipped. Of course, Sorento should appear in Russia and give a chat to aging and familiar classmates. The novelty has a whole bunch of news: a fresh platform, a grown body, a new level of interior gadgetisation under the control of a 10.25-inch media screen, materials, decoration, design - and so on and so forth.
There are three engines in the cage so far: a gasoline engine for 281 horses, a 202-horsepower diesel engine and a turbo-hybrid with 230 horsepower. And the progressive “robot” is in a hurry to replace the traditional “machine”. We wait? We wait!
It seems that we are already familiar with the Formentor crossover, and is its debut a purely protocol event? It's like that. Well, almost like that: a year ago, a prototype of the first-born of the Seat sub-brand arrived in Geneva. And it was almost-almost serial: the Spaniards called it a hybrid, listed the components of a 245-horsepower setup, and even calculated a pure electric power reserve. Now we are talking about a 100% serial product from Cupra. The conveyor version of the Formentor is a slightly simplified body fittings (but much more pleasing to the eye), as well as an alternative to the 245-horsepower hybrid, a petrol modification with a capacity of 310 horsepower. By the winter of 2020, the crossover will become not only serial, but also available to the European buyer. What about us? But to us - no.
The four-wheel drive Japanese kid was going to visit Geneva, albeit for a small, but still an occasion: he was modestly updated. The list of improvements includes bumpers, grille, new colors and small design touches in the cabin. And in the options - a new continuously variable variator as an alternative to mechanical and robotic transmissions. Just in time for a machine that hasn't renewed its makeup since 2016. Recall that in Europe, the 3.7-meter Ignis is known as the most compact and most affordable Suzuki.Prices for it start at 12,000 euros, or about 900,000 rubles at the current exchange rate.
Toyota that failed
Everything that is known today: the premiere of a miniature crossover on the GA-B platform was frightened off by the coronavirus. While the Japanese say that the debut will take place in weeks. Or in months … And the production of the crossover will begin in general in 2021. What will a small four-wheel drive Toyota look like? We suspect that's interesting. How will it drive, relying on the Yaris bogie and the potential of the 1.5-liter hybrid? So far, one can only guess …
