The Russian Volkswagen plant announced a forced cutback in SkodRapid production. The VW plant in Kaluga is experiencing a shortage of some auto components, Interfax reports.
Production of the Rapid liftback will decline due to a shortage of taillights from international suppliers. Start of sales of the updated model postponed to May 2020… The timing of the restoration of the output volumes has not yet been announced.
Activists of the interregional trade union "Workers' Association" also report about the possible downtime of production for a week with the preservation of 100 percent pay and subsequent working off with a pay of 150%. According to them, by the end of April - beginning of May, the third shift will go on paid leave, and the working hours of the rest of the workers will be reduced by 40 minutes. Representatives of the enterprise do not comment on this information.
The Volkswagen Group's Kaluga plant assembles SkodRapid, Volkswagen Polo and Tiguan models, and also produces 1.6 petrol engines. The maximum capacity of the plant is 225 thousand vehicles and 150 thousand engines per year.
