Video: Old VW Golf Turned Into & Nbsp; Restomod For Nine Million Rubles

Volkswagen spoke about the owner of the 1983 Rabbit GTI hatchback from Canada (known as the Golf GTI in Europe), who spent seven years restoring the car. The restoration of the car cost him 140 thousand dollars (9.1 million rubles).

- Derek Spratt bought a Volkswagen Rabbit GTI new at 21 as a student. He traveled by car in California with his future wife, after which he sold the car. When Derek, the former CEO of a large company, turned 50, he decided to remember his youth, found the same Rabbit GTI and began a complete restoration of the car.
-
In addition to restoring the body to a new state, he added a button start, heated seats, power windows and a digital dashboard, and also installed modern brakes.
- The standard 1.8-liter engine, which produced 91bhp in North America, was heavily modified to 223bhp without turbocharging.
- After completing the restoration, which took 12 thousand man-hours, Derek again went to the Rabbit GTI in California, this time with his eldest son. After driving 10 thousand kilometers, he sold the hatchback to a young couple from Vancouver for a very small amount - but on condition that the new owners keep in touch with Spratt, allowing him to occasionally ride a car.
- Now Derek Spratt plans to start a new project: he wants to turn a 1961 Volkswagen Beetle into an electric car.
