New VW Caddy: Without Springs, But With Digital Tidy

Volkswagen has shown the new generation Caddy family. Now presented three versions: a cargo van with a body volume of up to four cubic meters, as well as a five- and seven-seater passenger compact van.

• The Volkswagen Caddy has moved from the old PQ35 bogie from the fifth generation Golf hatchback to the latest version of the MQB modular platform, which debuted with the "eighth" Golf. The novelty has two versions of the wheelbase (dimensions have not yet been disclosed), and on all versions, instead of springs, springs are installed at the rear.
• The basic cargo Caddy has unpainted bumpers, and the passenger version will later offer two exterior options: the "Sport" Edition and the "Off-road" Panamericana. The drag coefficient due to the new body was reduced from 0.33 to 0.30.
• In the cabin, a large open shelf for things appeared on top of the front panel. From the new Golf, a 10.25-inch digital dashboard, a touch-sensitive control unit for lights and various heaters, and a 10-inch multimedia system screen are taken.
• The new Caddy can be equipped with, for example, LED optics, adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping, keyless entry, a 1.4 square meter panoramic roof and interior ambient lighting. The diameter of the rims is from 16 to 18 inches.

• At the start of sales, Caddy will be offered with a two-liter turbodiesel with 75, 102 and 122 hp, as well as a petrol 1.5-liter "turbo four" with a capacity of 116 hp. Later there will be a version with a 130-horsepower 1.5 TGI engine running on gas. Transmissions - six-speed "mechanics" or seven-speed "robot" with two clutches. The petrol and the most powerful diesel variant can be retrofitted with all-wheel drive.

In Europe, pre-orders for the new generation Volkswagen Caddy will start soon, but the first copies will only reach dealerships in the fourth quarter of 2020. In Russia, the model will appear even later.
