Australian brand Holden will cease to exist

General Motors has announced that it will liquidate the Holden brand, under which GM cars are sold in Australia and New Zealand, by 2021. A design studio and test center will close in Melbourne in the coming months. They will lay off 600 employees, and the remaining 200 people will be involved in providing car service over the next 10 years.
Holden was founded by James Alexander Holden in 1864 and initially focused on saddlery for horses. In 1913, the company switched to car manufacturing, and in 1931 became part of General Motors.
In Australia, Holden was engaged in the release of cars, including the original design, until 2017, after which he sold only redesigned Chevrolet, Buick and Opel models. Following the liquidation of the Australian brand, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban SUVs, Camaro and Corvette sports cars and Silverado pickups will be offered in Australia and New Zealand under their original brands.
