The New UAZ Patriot Will Receive Three Engines. One Of Them From Ford

The next-generation UAZ Patriot SUV will receive a line of three engines. One of them is a unit developed by Ford. This became known to the Drom portal. The current Patriot is offered with a single aspirated gasoline engine ZMZ with a working volume of 2.7 liters (150 hp).

• Two engines for the new Patriot were developed by the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant (ZMZ) together with the German engineering company FEV. The base will be a 2.5-liter aspirated with a capacity of 145 hp. (240 Nm). The turbocharged 2.3-liter engine will receive two options: 150 hp. (330 Nm) and 170 hp. (350 Nm). Both units will be able to run on both gasoline and gas.
• The SUV will also receive a Ford TDCi 2.2 turbodiesel from the Transit van. The engine will be produced at the idle Ford Sollers engine plant in Yelabuga, where 1.6-liter gasoline aspirated engines were previously produced for the Fiest and Focus.
• The motors will work in tandem with a six-speed "mechanics" of the Chinese concern BAIC or with the French "automatic" Punch Powerglide 6L50 six-speed, which is installed on the current Patriot. Four-wheel drive - with a rigidly connected front axle, a lowering and a rear differential lock.

• Also, the UAZ Patriot will receive a new frame with thicker side members and additional cross members. To improve safety, an energy-absorbing deformable module will appear in the front of the load-bearing structure. The front suspension will become independent, the rear will remain a continuous axle. The springs will be installed in a circle: it was decided to abandon the rear springs.

• All body panels, except for doors and roof, will be replaced with new ones. In this case, the boot lid with the spare wheel will still open to the right. In the cabin, buttons for various heating and a control unit for all-wheel drive transmission modes will be placed on the new front panel. Options will include full LED optics, an electric handbrake, all-round cameras, a blind spot monitoring system and a built-in video recorder.

Earlier, the executive director of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, Alexei Spirin, said that serial production of the new Patriot would begin in the second half of 2021. Later, on the basis of the SUV, a van will be built, as well as two- and four-door pickups.
