Toyota Corolla Will Become A Hot Hatch

Toyot is preparing a "charged" version of the Corolla hatchback sold in the European market. According to Auto Express, the new engine will develop about 250 horsepower.

• The five-door Corolla, redesigned by the sports division of ToyotGazoo Racing, will receive a 1.6-liter single-turbine three-cylinder gasoline engine from the three-door GR Yaris. However, for the larger model, the most powerful "turbo-triple" is slightly derated, but it will still be combined only with a six-speed "mechanics".

• Unlike the ToyotGR Yaris, which has four-wheel drive and two self-blocking units in front and rear, the "charged" Coroll will be exclusively front-wheel drive. The future novelty will be tuned for everyday driving, not for racing tracks. Its main competitors will be the Ford Focus ST and Hyundai i30 N.
• While the development of the ToyotGR Coroll is in its early stages. It is expected to go on sale in Europe in 2023, along with an updated Corolla.
