The Westport Police Department in Connecticut has redesigned its TeslModel 3 utility vehicle to use its built-in surveillance cameras. The Electrek portal told about it.
- The police contacted the local Whelen Engineering company to reconfigure TeslSentry Mode's proprietary security system. When it is turned on, the autopilot and all-round cameras of the car record the situation around, if the sensors record suspicious movements near the car.
According to the police, the use of the electric car in an unusual way saved the department about $ 3,000 (191 thousand rubles), which would have to be spent on equipping the patrol car with external cameras. Now law enforcement officers plan to use the TeslSentry Mode system as ordinary outdoor CCTV cameras.
- The Westport Department replaced Tesla with the decommissioned Ford Explorer. According to them, the electric car prepared for the service, although more expensive than the police version of the crossover, will save in the next three years $ 11,000 (700,000 rubles) on maintenance and $ 13,770 (876,000 rubles) on fuel.
