How Much Did Cars Rise In Price In 2019?

In 2019, new cars have risen on average by 9 percent… At the same time, Russian-assembled passenger cars expectedly rose in price less than imported ones, but in the commercial segment the growth in prices for imported models turned out to be lower than for “local” ones, writes Kommersant.

• The average cost of a passenger car in Russia in 2019 reached 1.6 million rubles, which is 9.6% more than in 2019. Cars of Russian brands went up in price by 6.1%, up to 665 thousand rubles, and models of foreign brands, but local assembly - by 8.6%. Imported cars added 9.4%.
• The average price for models from the commercial segment rose to 1.6 million rubles - plus 10.4%. At the same time, Russian-assembled cars rose in price more than imported ones: 11.5% (1.4 million rubles) against 10.8% (up to 2.7 million rubles).
• Prices for trucks increased less than others: plus 8.2%, to 6.2 million rubles on average. Russian-made trucks also rose in price more than imported ones: plus 10.7% (5.7 million rubles) against 6.5% (7.9 million rubles) for imported ones.

The rise in prices in 2019 is associated, first of all, with an increase in the VAT rate to 20% and inflation. Experts associate a smaller increase in the cost of imported cars in the commercial sector with the end of the industrial assembly regime, which gave manufacturers concessions on the import of components: the concern compensated for the lack of benefits by changing the price lists.

In 2020, experts predict a rise in prices by 8-10%. It will be associated, first of all, with an increase in the rates of waste collection. Among other reasons for updating the price lists for Russian automakers are the new rules for compensation for waste collection: now the benefits depend on the level of localization. Already in January, prices rose by 2-3%.
