When sales of Accord and Civic stopped in 2015, and dealers were obliged to import cars "for their own", and not by means of a representative office, the Internet exploded with headlines: "Hond is leaving Russia!" And although in reality this did not happen, the CR-V and Pilot crossovers that remained on sale instantly became invisible. The meager dealer network does not help them either: 25 centers all over the country against, for example, more than 50 from Subaru, the company is also quite chamber. Finally, prices: CR-V is fabulous, inadequately expensive! Or is it not?









It depends on what you compare it to. The Hond crossover costs about the same as the Subaru Forester in comparable trim levels - that is, approximately 50-100 thousand more expensivethan the new ToyotRAV4. This is painful - after all, the RAV4 is not cheap these days, but it fits well into the framework of our harsh reality. And why did the CR-V, fighting for the title of the most popular crossover with the same Toyota and the twins Nissan X-Trail / Rogue in other markets, found only 1,500 owners in Russia for the whole last year? Let's look at the example of a top-end version with a 2.4 engine, which costs without discounts 2 717 900 rubles.
Interior
Production of the fifth generation HondCR-V started at the end of 2016, and the age is already beginning to be felt. The multi-layered eclectic architecture of the salon lags behind the modern fashion for minimalism - and even the restyling carried out last fall had almost no effect on the situation. The updated CR-V will reach Russia only in the second half of 2020, but their interior will be almost the same as in the photos below. But this, in fact, is not bad: those who are not chasing the current design, Honda will delight with high-quality materials, rich functionality, and most importantly - how convenient and meaningful everything is organized here.











Practicality
It so happened that the HondCR-V came to our test at the same time as the class leaders - Volkswagen Tiguan, ToyotRAV4 and Hyundai Tucson. And this comparison ended in surprise: it was the CR-V that turned out to be the most spacious, roomy and comfortable, despite the fact that it is inferior to each of the competitors in wheelbase, and to Toyota also in total length.










Technics
The HondCR-V seems to be built on a modular platform that debuted with the tenth generation of the Civic model, although the fundamentally new architecture does not differ from the previous generation of the crossover. Front - McPherson struts, rear - multi-link, adaptive shock absorbers are not even available as an option. Depending on the market, the CR-V can be turbocharged or even hybrid, but the Russian versions are equipped only with atmospheric "fours" of 2.0 and 2.4 liters with a capacity of 150 and 188 horsepower, respectively. Gasoline AI-92 is registered for both according to the passport.




Riding
Let's make a reservation right away: this Honda, even in the top version with a 2.4 engine, is a rather unhurried car. Passport acceleration to a hundred takes 10.3 seconds, and the younger two-liter crossover will spend almost twelve on this exercise! But this does not mean at all that driving the CR-V is unpleasant: even if it does not pull at its 188 forces, the tandem of the engine and continuously variable transmission is fine-tuned and does not annoy with delays at all. You can maneuver in city traffic without problems, and there are no difficulties with overtaking after 100 kilometers per hour.

And the CR-V is not teasing anyway - it doesn't seem to be "vegetable", not phlegmatic, but emphatically calm.The relaxed suspension filters fine and medium bumps well, in most cases demonstrating decent energy consumption - although it will not understand cavalry attacks on speed bumps and will respond with a blow.
Controllability is the same - stress-free. In standard modes, there is a pleasant, natural effort on the steering wheel, and only with really active driving will you want more transparency and feedback. But even with such settings, it feels like the Honda chassis is rather tenacious, not too heeling - and tuned to emphatically safe demolition with all four wheels.

By the way, the stabilization system does not turn off here, so the spectacular shots demanded from us long, purposeful and desperate provocations: in ordinary life it is impossible to bring the CR-V to a skid, and even more so to “lose”. And that seems to be the right set-up for a family car.
But the thick and heavily littered front pillars for the same family reasons, I want to be attributed to tangible shortcomings - as well as the lack of a part of modern security systems. The CR-V is able to keep track of the lane markings and driver fatigue, but not to monitor blind spots and brake independently. And regardless of the family and safety of the crossover, you want more effective soundproofing of the wheel arches. Especially for that kind of money.

Equipment
There are four complete sets for the Honda CR-V. The youngest, Lifestyle, is only 150 horsepower, but even it will have two pedals and four drivers. And also - climate control, heating of the rest area of wipers, mirrors and front seats, an electric "handbrake", light and rain sensors, rear parking sensors and 18-inch wheels. In general, not a "drum" at all, but the price is 2,157,900 rubles still looks impressive.
The next Lifestyle version is already available for both engines at a price 2 349 900 and 2,434,900 rubles accordingly. It introduces keyless entry, touch multimedia instead of a conventional audio system, dual-zone climate control, a rearview camera, front parking sensors, remote engine start, fatigue control, rear window tinting and roof rails.

HondCR-V Executive is 2,490,900 rubles for a two-liter crossover or 2 576 900if you need something more powerful. Among the nishtyaks are leather upholstery, heated rear seats and steering wheel, electric front seats and trunk lids, lane control and cornering lights.
Finally, the very top, like ours, is the CR-V in the Prestige configuration, which does not have a two-liter at all, but costs already 2 717 900 rubles… Take one if you can't imagine life without a sunroof, head-up display, ascetic Garmin navigation and interior lighting. And even in this case, there will be competitors that will be more expensive.

And what conclusions can there be? Everything is said in the previous section: the competition in the compact crossover class is such that without really killer chips, sensational prices or an abnormal reputation (hello Toyota!) You can not count on success. The HondCR-V is also good - unconventional and comfortable inside, harmonious and flexible on the go, completely devoid of punctures that would infuriate during daily use. Well, not counting the constant "OK" on the multimedia screen.

But if we turn to its main trump cards - a spacious second row and a huge trunk - it turns out that the guys from the senior class (KiSorento Prime, Hyundai SantFe, Peugeot 5008, the same Kodiaq) offer even more for about the same money, albeit not in top-end configuration. And it turns out that if you disassemble the Honda into its components, then it can argue with anyone and in anything, but in the aggregate, the CR-V is, rather, the average for this entire large crossover hospital. Which could also be a powerful advantage if the calculators of Russian buyers showed more positive numbers.
Too expensive and too common is undeniably an understandable explanation for poor sales. And that's why ToyotRAV4 with a similar characteristic, in principle, is at the other end of the Russian charts - a separate story.And we will very soon carry out the chronicles of this car-paradox both in a single and in a group format.
