Opel is starting its comeback to the Russian market with two models. We have already tested the main striking force of Opel, the Grandland X crossover. 1. I remember the Opel Zafira: how does the Life version differ from it?

Everyone, except for the emblem. The previous Zafir is no longer produced and sold - although in its best years it was highly popular, including in Russia. And it deservedly used it: the engineers managed to turn the platform of a golf-class hatchback into a spacious family car, comfortably accepting seven passengers. Zafira, which is Life, is completely different. And yes, it belongs to a new wave of Opel models that have a lot in common with Peugeot and Citroen cars. In this case, with Traveler and SpaceTourer vehicles.

Therefore, ZafirLife can carry seven or even eight people, but there is no magic here: the car is simply big - 4.9 meters long. Or even a huge one, because there is also a version extended to 5.3 meters. We call it a minivan out of habit, but it is more correct to consider it a minibus. With sliding rear doors and seats that can be moved, removed and even placed against the direction of travel.

2. That is, Opel ZafirLife is the same "French German" as the Grandland X?

No, there is much less German in it, even in a formal sense: unlike the Grand, the minivan (let's call it that) immediately received a Russian registration and a Russian VIN. Cars for our market are produced in Kaluga, on the same assembly line as Peugeot and Citroen vans. The bodies are welded and painted in Russia, the rest of the units come from France.

And if not about formalities, but about the essence, then German engineers and designers did not bother with a minivan, unlike a crossover. We slightly changed the plastic on the front end, put different headlights and, of course, changed the lions and chevrons for their emblems. 3. Are there any technical differences from the "French"?

If they are, then they do not talk out loud about them and it is not possible to notice them. In the interior - the same devices, knobs and buttons and black hard plastic. The filling of the passenger compartment and the possibilities of its transformation are also the same. On the spot and the disadvantages of French cars - mediocre visibility (primarily due to small mirrors) and not very comfortable front seats.

And the Opel ZafirLife rides in the same way as the Peugeot Traveler. Normal, in the sense, goes. It reacts to the steering wheel calmly, but unequivocally, it slides out of the corner not too much for its size and weight, and it is completely stupid to find fault with synthetic effort and lack of feedback - it is important that the minivan confidently keeps a straight line at high speeds. Comfort is not royal, but Opel cannot be called excessively tough either. In general, it is a convenient means of transportation for a large number of passengers, which in no way pretends to be a driver car.

The power unit is generally the only one - a 150-horsepower diesel engine combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine does not annoy with noise and vibrations, pulls confidently and allows you not to fall out even from the flow of the German Autobahn. And the transmission is fine-tuned - even on a winding track, the hand doesn't reach for the Manual button.

The difference between the French and German minivans of the Russian assembly will be only in the equipment. On the one hand, unlike Peugeot and Citroen, Opel is not sold with all-wheel drive. At least not yet - after all, in Europe ZafirLife 4x4 exists. On the other hand, the German brand is positioned higher, therefore, in the ZafirLife database it is equipped slightly better than its neighbors on the conveyor - for example, all versions have xenon headlights and a multimedia system with a 7-inch touchscreen at once.

4. What equipment does the minivan have in general?

So far, there are only two of them - the basic Innovation and the top-end Cosmo, and the second is available only with a long body. But ZafirLife Innovation is well equipped - there will be eight seats with fabric upholstery, two climate control systems (for the first row and rear passengers), keyless entry and four airbags.The driver is assisted by ESP, cruise control, parking sensors in a circle and a rear view camera, as well as blind spot monitoring systems, lift assistance and emergency braking. But the wheels will be stamped, 16-inch.

In the Cosmo version, the minivan additionally receives side curtain airbags, front seats with electric adjustments (with massage!), A head-up display, automatic headlight control, electric sliding doors, an IntelliGrip Control selector for driving modes, lane control and navigation. The seats are already in leather, and there will be seven of them - two VIP-chairs are installed on the second row, to which a folding table can be added for an additional payment of 40 thousand rubles. And the wheels will be light alloy and an inch larger than the base.

By the way, the Peugeot Traveler in the top Long Business VIP version is also equipped.

5. Should you buy Opel if you have Peugeot and Citroen?

If the task is to buy a minivan as cheaply as possible, then probably not. Because Peugeot Traveler and Citroen SpaceTourer have a version with a 95-horsepower 1.6HDi diesel engine, a manual transmission and a short body in a free white color (for any other, the buyer will ask for 40 thousand). In this case, up to the psychologically important mark of two million, there is a gap of as much as one hundred rubles.

But if the budget for the purchase already allows for indulgence, then the choice becomes more difficult. The price of the Opel ZafirLife with a short body is from 2,549,900 rubles. French minivans with the same two-liter diesel engine and "automatic" are as much as three hundred thousand cheaper - from 2,249,900 rubles, but, we repeat, they are equipped with worse. The surcharge for a longer body with any emblem is the same - 50 thousand rubles.

ZafirLife performed by Cosmo costs 2,999,900 rubles (excluding additional payments for the table and color). In this case, the difference in price with the French “brothers” is less - “only” 200 thousand, but if the list of equipment is identical, this already looks like an overpayment “for the name”. Is it worth the lightning on the lattice of this money - vote for the buyer.
