The Pasadena, Texas Police Department bought a new Ford Mustang GT coupe for $ 49,275.82. According to the Houston Chronicle, the sports car was purchased with money from the children's safety fund, which is replenished with fines for traffic violations, including speeding.
- Police said they decided to buy a car atypical for the department in the hope of improving the reputation of the police among the local population, especially among young people. As conceived by the department, young people will be interested in a sports car and establish contact with law enforcement officers.
Pasadena office chief Josh Breiger said the Mustang's primary role would not be patrolling the streets, but participating in events such as open days and parades. Until the department shows the purchase, the car must first get a special police livery.
The new Ford Mustang GT is equipped with a naturally aspirated 5.0 V8 with 466 hp. (569 Nm). The engine is combined with a six-speed "mechanics" or with an "automatic" for ten gears. The rear-wheel-drive coupe accelerates to 60 mph (96.5 km / h) in 4.4 seconds.
