Russian Dealers Will Not Be Able To Issue Numbers In Car Dealerships Yet

On January 1, 2020, dealers have a formal right to register sold cars and issue license plates to their owners, but in reality it is still impossible to register a new car right in the showroom. According to Kommersant, dealers have not yet been able to obtain the status of a specialized organization.

It is assumed that a dealer who wants to provide this service must be accredited and put on the appropriate police register. However, business representatives say that it is still impossible to obtain this status: the accreditation process is not fully formalized and does not work. When dealers in reality will be able to register new cars on their own, experts do not undertake to predict.

According to the government decree, from January 1, 2020, the process of registering a car in the salon should look like this:

• the responsible employee of the auto center inspects the car and through the portal of state services transfers information to the traffic police with the result of the inspection and documents;
• The traffic police checks the information and makes a decision on the registration of transport;

• a plate with a number and a certificate of registration of a vehicle in the traffic police receives an employee of the dealer and gives it to the owner;
• the cost of the service is fixed - 500 rubles.

However, some car dealerships have provided a similar service before. To do this, the client issued a power of attorney for a representative of the dealership who was involved in the process of registering and receiving numbers. The cost of such a service reached 20 thousand rubles.
