The Ministry of Economic Development of Russia has developed tariffs at which it will be possible to legally buy license plates with a "beautiful" combination of letters and numbers. Prices for different combinations are published on the portal of draft regulations.

• According to the document, the highest base duty is 600,000 rubles. So much you have to pay for license plates with three identical numbers and letters. For other combinations of letters and numbers, prices vary from 5,000 to 450,000 rubles, while the regional authorities will be allowed to reduce or increase the amount of the duty tenfold, so the most expensive numbers can cost 6,000,000 rubles.

• When reselling a car with "nice" numbers, the new owner will have to pay the increased state duty again. In case of refusal, the license plates will be returned to the traffic police, and the owner will be given regular numbers. An exception will be made for those cases when a car with "nice" numbers is inherited or if the owner wants to keep the numbers for himself and transfer them to another car.
• Instead of selling some numbers through government services, regions are allowed to hold 30-day auctions. The starting price for each room will be the amount of the increased state duty, and one buyer will be allowed to participate simultaneously in a maximum of five auctions. Half of the amount from the sale at the auction will go to the regional budget.
• The new rules are expected to take effect on January 1, 2021. Until June 1 of this year, the Ministry of Finance will prepare requirements for organizers of auctions for the sale of "beautiful" license plates.

Now only one procedure for obtaining license plates is officially in effect: a combination of letters and numbers is automatically assigned by the system. The state duty for the issuance of a registration plate is 2,000 rubles. At the same time, on the black market, the cost of individual combinations of letters and numbers can reach several million rubles.
