Tesl posted a sketch of the compact electric vehicle in a recruiting announcement on the Chinese messenger WeChat. According to Reuters, the American company plans to open a research center in China to develop "Chinese-style" cars.
- The head of Tesl, Elon Musk, wants to not only produce, but also create electric vehicles in China, including for the global market. However, there are no details about future updates, including the announced small hatchback.
- Most likely, the research center will open next to the TeslGigafactory 3 plant in Shanghai, which began production of TeslModel 3 electric cars at the end of 2019. Now the enterprise is reaching its design capacity of 3,000 vehicles per week. Batteries and charging stations are also produced there.
At the moment, TeslModel 3 of the Chinese assembly is localized by a third. During 2020, it is planned to switch entirely to locally produced parts in order to reduce the cost of electric vehicles by 20 percent. The base Chinese-made Model 3 sedan now costs 355,800 yuan (RUB 3.2 million) excluding government subsidies.
