Future SUVs Mitsubishi Pajero and Nissan Patrol are going to be built on the same platform. The head of the Australian division of Mitsubishi Motors John Signorello told CarsGuide about this plan.
- Since 2016, Nissan has become the owner of 34 percent of Mitsubishi Motors, and future models have begun to develop together. For example, the new Nissan X-Trail and Mitsubishi Outlander will become co-platform. The same fate awaits the flagship SUVs of the two brands.
It is not yet known whether the new Pajero and Patrol will be built from scratch or will be based on the already existing Nissan platform. Mitsubishi's architecture is not suitable for new products, as the current Pajero, which debuted in 2006, is a heavily modified version of the third generation model released back in 1999. At the same time, the last Nissan Patrol has been produced since 2010 and has recently undergone a major update.
- Signorello did not say when to expect the release of the new Mitsubishi Pajero. In the fall, the company announced that the current SUV will leave the Russian market after it sells the last batch of the special Final Edition limited to 500 units.
