Mercedes-Benz introduced the second generation GL crossover. The novelty completed the formation of the current line of compact cars of the brand. It consists of models built on the MF platform with a transverse engine arrangement: a seven-seater GLB crossover, A-class (sedan and hatchback) and CL (sedan and station wagon), as well as a B-class compact van.
The length of the new Mercedes-Benz GL is 4410 millimeters, which is 14 mm shorter than its predecessor. At the same time, the crossover has grown in width by 30 mm (up to 1834 mm), and in height - by 104 mm at once (up to 1611 mm). The wheelbase has increased by 30 mm (up to 2,729 mm), and the cabin has become more spacious. The boot volume is now 435 liters instead of the previous 421 liters.
- In the cabin, the front panel and a three-section second-row sofa with longitudinal adjustment in the range of 140 mm for the new GL are taken from the B-class compact MPV. The new front seats are set higher for a more upright seating position, and the doors completely cover the sills.
- The list of standard equipment of the Mercedes-Benz GL includes the MBUX multimedia with two 7-inch screens, LED optics and an auto-braking system. For a surcharge, adaptive cruise control with plug autopilot, which can clear the lane for special vehicles, a blind spot tracking system, 10.25-inch monitors on the front panel, a head-up display, Burmester audio system, electric trunk drive and much more are offered.
While the new GL has a modification with the index 200 and "charged" Mercedes-AMG GL35. The base crossover is equipped with a 1.33-liter gasoline turbo engine with 163 hp. (250 Nm) paired with a seven-speed "robot" with two clutches. The GL200 accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.7 seconds and has a top speed of 210 km / h.
The AMG version with a special aerodynamic body kit, a modified suspension and a reinforced body has a two-liter "turbo four" with a capacity of 306 hp. (400 Nm) and an eight-speed "robot" with two clutches. The "charged" crossover accelerates to "hundreds" in 5.1 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited at around 250 km / h.
- An all-wheel drive transmission with a rear axle clutch is available as an option for the GL200 and is standard on the AMG version. In comfort mode, 80 percent of the thrust is transferred to the front axle, in sport mode - 70 percent, and in off-road mode - 50 percent. The optional Off-Road Engineering package includes an uphill and downhill assist, off-road driving electronics and an assistant that animates the transmission on the multimedia display.
In Europe, the second generation Mercedes-Benz GL will go on sale in spring 2020. The cost of the crossover will be announced later.
