

The organizers of the Car of The Year Japan 2019-2020 competition have announced the winner. It was the fifth generation ToyotRAV4 crossover.
The previous two years, the victory went to Volvo's crossovers: in 2017 - the XC60, and in 2018 - the XC40. The first foreign model to win the competition in 2013 was the seventh generation Volkswagen Golf. The Car of the Year Japan award was established in 1980.

The jury of the competition, consisting of 69 Japanese journalists, gave the RAV4 436 points. The second place was taken by the Mazda3 family (328 points), the third - by the BMW 3 Series (290 points). For Toyot, this is the eighth win in the history of the competition, and the last time the main prize went to the third-generation Prius hybrid in 2009.
- Winners in four additional categories have also been announced. The best foreign car was the BMW 3 Series family, the most innovative was the restyled Nissan Skyline sedan with a new version of the road autopilot, the most emotional was the Jeep Wrangler SUV, and the Nissan Dayz / Mitsubishi eK family won in the category for key cars.
