The Latin NCAP organization, which conducts car crash tests for the South American market, tested the safety of the Mitsubishi L200 pickup. The base model has no airbags in the Chilean specification. According to the test results, she received zero out of five stars.

  • In the course of a frontal crash test at a speed of 64 km / h on the crumple barrier, the floor panels of the Mitsubishi L200 body were severely deformed. Latin NCAP stated that the frame pickup, whose curb weight is 2033 kilograms, has no margin of safety, and upon impact at a higher speed, the body will lose structural integrity.
  • Sensors on the head and chest of the driver dummy recorded that the maximum permissible loads were exceeded, which means that there is practically no chance of surviving an accident. A passenger in the same conditions can be seriously injured. Thanks to the Isofix mounts, the pickup received two stars for child protection (20.49 points out of 49).
  • The Latin American representative office of Mitsubishi Motors has promised to add front airbags and belts with pretensioners and force limiters to the basic pickup package from the spring of 2020. Now such equipment, as well as a stabilization system in the base there is the L200, designed for the Russian market.

  • However, Latin NCAP noted that such measures would not be enough. The organization requires the installation of a stabilization system and side airbags on each Mitsubishi L200, as well as finalizing protection for pedestrians. In this case, the pickup will be able to count on getting a rating above two stars for more stringent requirements that will be introduced in 2020.
