Renault handed over to the head of the Catholic Church a second-generation budget crossover DaciDuster, turned into a papamobile. They decided to give it to Duster because Pope Francis prefers to ride simple, inexpensive models.

  • The unique Duster was developed by employees of the Daci brand in cooperation with specialists from the Romanian body shop Romturingia. The crossover in the classic color for papamobiles received a huge hatch, and a canopy was attached to the body struts to protect it from bad weather. For the convenience of embarking and disembarking, the vehicle's ground clearance was reduced by 30 millimeters (up to 180 mm).

  • The interior of the new Popemobile has become beige. Five seats were retained for the crossover, but, according to the creators, the second row has become more comfortable. Judging by the nameplates, this DaciDuster is all-wheel drive, which means that it is equipped with either a 1.33-liter gasoline turbo engine (in the 130 or 150 horsepower version) or a 115-horsepower 1.5 turbodiesel.

In October, a white Nissan NP300 pickup truck was turned into a Popemobile for Pope Francis's trip across the island of Mauritius. A leather chair, handrails and a canopy were installed on his cargo platform.
