Porsche is working on a hypercar that will become the flagship of the brand. As it became known to the publication Autocar, the model will receive a hybrid power plant, originally developed for Formula 1.

  • Since the 2014 season, Formula 1 has been using 1.6 V6 petrol engines, complemented by motor generators. One of them is connected to the ICE crankshaft and collects energy during braking, giving it away during acceleration, and the second extracts energy from the exhaust gases and spins the turbine of a gasoline engine.
  • Initially, Porsche planned to make the new hypercar fully electric and use solid-state batteries for it. However, the new type of batteries will become serial not earlier than the second half of the 2020s. As a result, the company's management decided to equip the flagship model with a hybrid power plant.
  • The sports division of Porsche Motorsport has developed a hybrid for Formula 1 in order to become a supplier of motors for other teams. Later this idea was abandoned, but the minders continued to work on the power plant.

  • The new hypercar will receive not only a road version, but also a sports one for endurance racing of the FIWEC championship. However, there are no exact dates for the release of the new model yet - it will debut no earlier than 2023.

Mercedes-AMG introduced the One hypercar in 2017 with a 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 producing around 1,000 hp. from a Formula 1 car. It was planned that the serial production of the coupe would begin in 2019, but the adaptation of the engine to civilian conditions took much longer. In particular, the engineers had to shift the idle speed from the previous 5000 rpm to 1200, and also modify it to reduce the noise level. Now the start of production of Mercedes-AMG is scheduled for 2021.
