The Volume Of Car Production In St. Petersburg Falls For The Third Month In A Row

In October 2019, 34.4 thousand cars rolled off the conveyors of three St. Petersburg car factories - Hyundai / Kia, Nissan and Toyot. This is 5% less than a year earlier, according to Auto-Dealer-SPb. This is the third consecutive decline in production volumes this year.

“This picture is a reflection of the state of demand for new cars in Russia,” says Mikhail Chaplygin, CEO of Auto-Dealer-SPb. - In the country, the car market still showed some positive signs in the first quarter, but then began to fall. The export of St. Petersburg-assembled cars, which has already exceeded the result of the entire 2018, does not help either."

After another drop (in August it was minus 3%, and in September minus 15%), the total output of St. Petersburg auto enterprises turned out to be 0.1% lower than from January to October 2018. During this period in 2019, 307.7 thousand cars rolled off the assembly line. The share of the St. Petersburg car industry fell to 23.7% (minus 0.9 points).

Only three models of St. Petersburg car factories were in the top 10 best-selling foreign cars in Russia at the end of ten months of 2019: KiRio (78.1 thousand units, minus 5.9%), Hyundai Cret (58.8 thousand units, plus 5.8 %) and Hyundai Solaris (49.8 thousand units, minus 11.2%).
