Video: The Most Powerful Supersonic Car Surpasses The 1000 Km / H Mark
Jet car Bloodhound LSR on a 20-kilometer straight line in the South African Kalahari desert accelerated to 628 mph (1,010.67 km / h). Moreover, the British racer Andy Green turned off the afterburner at 990 km / h, and almost 21 km / h the car accelerated by inertia - everything took only 50 seconds.
- The Bloodhound LSR was not driving at full power - only the Rolls-Royce EJ200 jet engine from the Eurofighter fighter was used. Tests are currently underway in the desert to collect data on the downforce acting on the vehicle. For this, 192 sensors were installed on the car body.
In addition to the Rolls-Royce EJ200 engine, the Bloodhound LSR is powered by the Nammo hybrid rocket engine. In total, they give out 135 thousand horsepower. The car is 13.5 meters long, 3 meters high and weighs 7.8 tons.
- After completing various tests, the authors of the project expect to break the current land speed record (1228 km / h), set by Andy Green on the Thrust SSC car in 1997. According to calculations, the Bloodhound LSR should overcome the 1000 mph (1609 km / h) milestone, and the top speed test should take place in late 2020 or early 2021.
