The state-owned company Avtodor, which is responsible for the construction of toll roads, has proposed limiting the use of studded tires and introducing fines for non-compliance with the rules. According to RT, the corresponding document has already been sent to the Ministry of Transport.
- According to the current technical regulations, winter tires are allowed to be used 273 days a year - from the beginning of September to the end of May. Avtodor wants to reduce the service life of studded tires in the Central Region to 188 days due to the destruction of roads.
- According to the company, Russian highways receive up to 90 percent of the damage in winter. Roads with a permitted speed of more than 70 km / h are being destroyed especially intensively. Therefore, Avtodor also proposes to limit the maximum speed in winter at around 70-80 km / h on all roads.
- Now the Ministry of Transport of Russia must study the proposals and, if agreed, prepare amendments to the laws. Now the regions can independently set the exact terms of the ban on the use of summer tires in the winter, but there are no penalties for this violation yet.
