Teenage Girl Comes Up With A Simple Solution To Eliminate Blind Spots In Cars

Alaina Gassler, 14, of Pennsylvania, USA, has devised an elegant way to remove blind spots in cars. According to Mashable, the device is made of a webcam, a projector and special material.

• As conceived by Gassler, a webcam is installed outside the front pillar of the car, which transmits the image to a projector located above the driver's seat. In turn, the video is broadcast in real time to a special fabric on the inner rack of the machine, making it "transparent". The picture is displayed only to the driver, and the front passenger sees the usual interior trim in front of him.
• As with most inventions, the technology was crude at first. The first version of the device blinded the front passenger, and the image itself was indistinct. To solve this problem, Gassler experimented with several types of reflective fabric and 3D printed parts. As a result, the device worked as intended.

• The new technology for eliminating blind spots in cars brought Aleine Gassler a victory and prize money of $ 25,000 (1.6 million rubles) in the Broadcom Masters competition. Now the girl expects that her invention will appear on production cars.
